At the end of 2025, The Waywiser Press’s founder, Philip Hoy, stepped down as its Editor-in-Chief, and the company ceased trading under that name. However, the press lives on, having been transformed, after 3 years of planning and preparation, into Waywiser Books, a non-profit successor based in the USA, where it is being stewarded by four longtime members of the press’s editorial board (Eric McHenry, Dora Malech, V. Penelope Pelizzon, and Katherine Hollander), and two recent winners of its Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize (Hannah Louise Poston and Austin Allen).
The Waywiser Books team has promised “to honour, sustain, and strengthen Waywiser’s legacy by championing writing that is at once innovative and aware of formal inheritances; promoting both emerging and established voices; and publishing striking, intelligent, and memorable books in elegant physical form.”
